Most of us might have been in a situation where we lost our job, or closed an existing business due to the current situation.
I am on the verge of losing mine too.
Nearly 7.5 million small businesses are at risk of closing their doors permanently over the next several months if the coronavirus pandemic persists, according to a survey, while 47 million people worlwide will lose their job according to St. Louis Fed projections.
Low and middle-income families struggles a lot during this crisis. The wealthy have more money, and it will support them up to the end.
The situation will get worst and the global economy will not go back to normal anytime soon.
It will be a grim future and a long economic depression. We need to tighten our belts so that we, and our families, will survive.
The most essential thing now will be an affordable housing for our family and to assure food on the table everyday.
What will be the essential strategies that a family man should do to prepare ahead?
I realized that during the economic lock-down, people are going back to the basic of the main source; agriculture.
In the Philippines, rice is our staple food, and we cannot live in a day without eating rice.
It is a heroic act to support locally produced food. It will help the local economy move, while supports the local farmers as they are always the backbone and Front-liners of the economy.

As the head of the family, I need to ensure that my small kingdom have the following;
1. Ensure food availability:
There is a risk and possibility that the market systems may be
severely affected, so it is necessary to start a local network of food supply, of which we can market and share as well.
Idealistically, there should be;
food for the pantry
Food in the fridge/freezer
Fruits and vegetables
Organic food.
I will encourage home gardening.
We have a farm in the nearby province but I will encourage home gardening so that we can have a source of basic food we need. We expect that the Philippine government cannot dole out food aid all the time.

2. Ensure food access.
I will start a delivery business when I come back home.
Its time to be the knight with a shinning armor. I need to become the family's frontliner!
A delivery business will be a very potential business today, as it will open opportunities to network locally, especially with the growers and farmers.
This will ensure food supply system as well in my home.
It is also important that our family should eat healthy food to boost our immune system.
Three things are necessary points to consider:
Buy essential food supply but do not hoard.
Bartering unneeded and unused items for food.
Do not shun benevolence, but be graciously thankful for gifts, or government food aid.
Give back to the community as well.
3. Ensure that the food supply are utilized properly.
I am not a dietitian nor a nutritionist, so I cannot really dig deeper on this, but as I understand, we have a daily nutritional need or balance diet for food intake.Moderation is the key during this crisis.
I will make sure that food is stored and cook properly, and the there will be an adequate source of clean water.
There are several ways on how to purify water at home:
Boiling.
Use of Iodine solution, tablets or crystals
Use chlorine drops.
Use water filter.
4. Encourage entrepreneurship in the home
It is very necessary to have knowledge about how to prepare for a pandemic. There are several information from the government and on the internet on how to protect and prepare our homes from this crisis, so that we can thrive.
If you loss your jobs because of the economic impact of the pandemic, look for alternative ways to earn from home and expand your local network by sharing your services and ability as a freelancer.
If you are still employed and is needing public transport to go to and fro, you need to protect yourself by wearing mask while using the public transportation. Take with you your sanitizer and do not take chance by getting nearer to other people. Social distancing is one of the key to avoid the virus.
If you can switch with the work from home occupation, you better start now, as this will have a potential opportunity. There are people who are working from home and earns tax-free salary as freelancers.
You can encourage the kids to learn entrepreneurship while young, and to teach them that this world is not just a playground to enjoy, but also a harsh world to survive. Being taught entrepreneurship early on, can prepare them to gain the essential survival skills on how to get on to life. Kids can start their own Youtube channel while in the home. This will encourage them to use their time wisely and be creatively.
5. Be grateful everyday
Lastly, be thankful and grateful for the good health everyday. During this time, we cannot expect a lot about getting a profit in our business during this tough times. What we need now is the gut to survive and thrive.
Keep safe everyone!
